Getting to Know Me...

Who am I?

My name is Carrie Arnold. EQsential is my baby (of the non-human kind). I started EQsential as a way to share my love of learning and to enact my devious plan to create a world of emotionally intelligent people. I earned my doctoral degree in Educational Leadership, Research, and Policy from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs with a concentration in higher education policy. My research is in Emotional Intelligence and the impact it has on personal and professional success. I earned my Master’s Degree from The College of Notre Dame of Maryland in Nonprofit Management. I have two Bachelor’s degrees, one in Political Science and the other in the German Language from The University of Maryland at College Park. What can I say? I like learning and being in debt!

Prior to devoting myself to EQsential full-time, I was the Interim Director of the Gateway Program Seminar at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. I maintained the premier campus Peer Leader Program and developed curriculum for the university’s Academic Engagement courses. I was also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication and taught various leadership courses. I am a certified training partner of Multi-Health Systems, Inc. and have completed over 1,000 individual coaching feedback sessions.

I am a member of several professional organizations. I am a member of the National Communication Association, International Leadership Association, The Project Management Institute, The Society of Emotional Intelligence. I also work closely with Eduology and The Peer Leader Center of Denver.

In my former life, BHE (before higher education), I worked in the insurance industry, secondary education, and hospitality Human Resources. I like variety.

I love teaching and continue to teach Communication and German courses at local education institutions. If I didn't teach, how else would I know about social media trends? Today's students keep me on point!

In my personal time, I like to play with my fraternal twins, Sully and D.B. One is of the furry sort and the other, human. However, they are both four years old. I've been happily married for almost a decade. We recently left the beautiful mountains of Colorado and relocated to Annapolis, Maryland. We traded Rocky Mountain Oysters for Maryland Crab Cakes!
